Position: Commercial Manager

Location: Cork

Salary: Senior Package Neg DOE

Our client is a Specialist Sub Contractor and they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee day-to-day commercial aspects of the entire business/projects domestically & internationally. This is a client facing role and as such the ideal candidate must be professional, assertive, driven and have 10yrs min working in a similar position.

Commercial Manager Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Identify opportunities to grow the Business, whether through partnerships or new initiatives, and work to take advantage of those opportunities.
  • Analyse sales, finance, marketing and other reports that give insight into how the business can make adjustments to improve performance.
  • Assist Managing Director and work with Contracts Director and Quantity Surveyor to ensure a cohesive team.
  • Resolve all commercial issues regarding Contracts domestically and internationally.
  • Communicate to all relevant staff the commercial aspects of every project particularly the contract's financial aspects.
  • Assess risks and make recommendations based on a thorough analysis of all factors involved in business situation.
  • Coach team members on best practices for managing contract issues and handling daily issues and tasks.
  • Demonstrate a lead by example approach to all aspects of Health & Safety, be fully compliant with Company Health & Safety: policies, procedures, systems and rules.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, dealers and architects and generate repeat business through this interaction.
  • Prepare/ Oversee all domestic and international commercial contracts to a very high standard in accordance with in country regs.
  • Attend site/architect/customer meetings when required.
  • Oversee any AutoCAD details to get sign off from the architect / client.
  • Analyse tenders and project requirements with team to establish best product to use for specific projects.
  • Meet with suppliers to negotiate price, specification, lead times and any quality issues.
  • Prepare and submit stage payment claims and follow up until full payments received.
  • Organise to get any snags completed to ensure payment of outstanding monies.
  • Track projects and advise accounts when and how much to invoice clients for.
  • Prepare reports for Board meetings and other meetings when required.
  • Work with the HR department with any issues with your team.
  • Work with the Marketing department with any marketing needs that arise.
  • To comply with all statutory and legal requirements and Health & Safety, Fire, Hygiene and Employment, ensuring that you are fully aware and practice the company's policies and procedures in these important areas.
  • To attend any meetings and training sessions when required to by Management.
  • To maintain at all times a good working relationship with your fellow workers and Management.

Commercial Manager Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working as a Commercial Manager for a construction related firm in Ireland.
  • Recognised 3rd level qualification in Quantity Surveying and or Construction Economics.
  • Recognised membership of relevant professional body/bodies.
  • Proven experience and success in financial management of projects, putting together bids for new work and negotiating and agreeing contracts.
  • Track record of success in overseeing projects from inception to completion and identifying and mitigating risks involved.
  • Previous significant customer interfacing experience is essential. Along with a proven ability to create and maintain positive relationships and a commercial focus.
  • Excellent Working knowledge of various forms of Construction Contracts. The Public Works Contracts suite of documents particularly.
  • Leadership skills and people management experience essential.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with our customers, suppliers, dealers and architects/ clients.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Full, clean driving licence
